Protect The Church. Become a Shepherd.
What is a Shepherd?
A Shepherd is more than a security guard. You're a protector who understands ministry context, operates with calm authority, and serves churches in a way that supports—not disrupts—their culture of welcome and care.
As a Shepherd, you'll work under Shepherd 360's Private Patrol Operator (PPO) license, which means you're a state-licensed, professionally trained armed security professional. You'll serve churches that need BSIS-compliant protection but don't have the infrastructure to become a PPO themselves.
This role is for individuals who want to use their security skills in service of the church—people who understand the unique responsibility of protecting a congregation, the importance of de-escalation and communication, and the difference between a ministry environment and a commercial security assignment.
What You'll Do
- Provide armed security coverage for church services, events, and campus protection
- Maintain situational awareness while supporting a welcoming, hospitable environment
- Coordinate with church safety teams and leadership
- Respond to threats or disruptions with ministry-aligned de-escalation and communication
- Operate under Shepherd 360's supervision, training, and operational standards
- Represent the Shepherd 360 mission: professional protection that preserves church culture
Requirements
To become a Shepherd, you must meet the following baseline requirements:
- Valid California Guard Card: Current BSIS registration as a security guard
- Valid California CCW or Firearm Permit: Authorization to carry a firearm in a professional capacity
- Clean Background Check: Must pass BSIS and Shepherd 360 vetting
- HALO Training Completion: You'll complete Shepherd 360's full HALO program (H, A, L, and O levels) as part of onboarding
- Professional Demeanor: Ability to operate with calm authority in ministry environments
- Commitment to Ministry-Aligned Service: Understanding that your role is to protect, not intimidate
What We Provide
- Comprehensive HALO training (all levels) tailored to ministry environments
- Ongoing professional development and operational support
- Supervision under a licensed PPO structure
- Assignment coordination and scheduling
- Liability coverage through Shepherd 360's PPO license and insurance
- Competitive compensation for professional security work
The Shepherd Mindset
This role is different from traditional security work. Churches are not shopping malls or corporate campuses. The people you'll protect are families, children, seniors—people gathering to worship, not transact. Your presence must be protective without being intimidating, professional without being cold.
Shepherds understand stewardship. You're not just protecting property—you're protecting a community. You're not enforcing rules—you're supporting a ministry mission. And you're not operating alone—you're part of a broader safety ecosystem that includes volunteers, staff, and church leadership.
If that resonates with you—if you see security as service, protection as stewardship, and ministry as a context worth understanding—then the Shepherd role may be a strong fit.
