⚠️ New California Law (SB 1454) Affects Church Security Teams

As of January 1, 2025, California law SB 1454 requires all churches using uniformed, unarmed security — even volunteers — to comply with state licensing requirements.

What this means:

If your church security team:

▪️Wears uniforms marked “Security”

▪️Is paid or receives any form of compensation (stipends, meals, perks)

▪️Interacts with the public or congregation

Then your team must now be registered as Proprietary Private Security Officers (PPSOs) through BSIS.

Churches are no longer exempt — compliance is now mandatory.
